Wet And Cool To Start The Week

Spotty showers from this morning are becoming more widespread this evening as a trough from British Columbia starts sinking south.

The arrival of this system tonight will be carried into Monday and with it will come more wet and cooler weather.

The latest update from the SPC says that in Washington, there is a general risk for thunderstorms from the coast to the Cascade crest today through Tuesday morning. Although the best chance for thunderstorms and pockets of stronger activity favor Monday. These pockets of stronger storms could bring thunder, gusty winds, and/or small hail.

Still, a rumble of thunder or few single cell thunderstorm clusters between showers for some again cannot be ruled out for the rest of tonight or Tuesday morning.

In addition to instability in the atmosphere, the cooler air mass making its way into the region tonight into tomorrow will drop snow levels down to about 2,000′. A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect at 11 p.m. Sunday and remain in effect until 11 a.m. Monday but these advisory effects elevation above 3,500′. High elevations could see up to 8″.

While Snoqualmie Pass is excluded from the aforementioned advisory (elevation at Snoqualmie is 3,022′) Sunday night to Monday morning there could be up to 6″ of snow for Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes. Right now, the chances of snow exceeding 6″ is only 20%.

With warmer surface temperatures lately, snow accumulation on roads around passes isn’t expected and overall travel impacts to the passes will be minor with slick roads being the main

With thunderstorm chances looking greater on Monday, it’s also worth noting that more scattered showers are on tap for the day but come Tuesday skies start to dry out as the area of low pressure moves towards the southeast. While skies will be drier, temperatures are still cool.

Forecast looks good on Wednesday with average high temperatures and sunny skies.

Current forecast models are struggling to agree with the potential outcomes for Thursday-Sunday.

Right now eyes are on a trough disrupting our dry spell later in the week prompting some passing showers and sunbreaks Thursday.

Friday and beyond the computer data is murky. We’ll know more as we get closer to.
